The seeds of a good snack
read time: about two minute
Like nuts, seeds are also a much better snacking food…
Pine nuts - are actually a seed from the cones of pine trees. They’re very high in protein and a great source of thiamin and Vitamins A, C and D.
Pumpkin seeds - high in protein, iron, phosphorus and zinc.
Seasame seeds - good source of protein and calcium.
Sunflower seeds - good source of calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium.
Make your own “trail mix” with a variety of nuts and seeds and a little bit of dried fruit. The high protein and fat content will fill you up with a small quantity and keep you off the high carb snack energy roller coaster. You wind up consuming fewer calories and maintaining a smoother and higher energy level.
But do heed:
It’s better to buy raw nuts and seeds rather than roasted and/or salted;
It’s better to make your own mix rather than buy a packaged trail mix - they’re often loaded with some kind of sweetener and other chemicals that extend the shelf life.
